Emanuel Hersch was born in Poland and came to the US in 1949. He worked as a machinist and tool maker in Indianapolis. He crafted aluminum planes and miniatures boats in the 1950s. He later switched to carving wood in the 1970s. His subject matter was diverse, from wrestlers to nude women. He worked at night, while his wife was on the late shift at RCA. He died in 2004.
