Rae (aka Pie, Mona Lisa) is originally from Alabama but she and her family have lived most of the time in Indianapolis. She draws on scrap lumber with crayon, occasionally using paint when some has been given to her. She has also done work on paper and cloth. Rae usually draws people she knows, her daughters, friends and neighbors. The size of her work is determined by the size of the board she finds but she prefers working on large pieces. She is an easily recognized fixture on the east side of the city, animated and upbeat, her eclectic style is reflected in her work. She is capable of composing long poetic verse, often on the spot and with great insight and humor. Rae was recently part of an exhibit about Outsider art at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.
For many years Rae has lived on the streets but now is under the watchful eye of social services.
