Ed Larson is a former Chicago ad executive born in Joplin, Missouri. After many years in the business and being fired three times, he quit the business and started producing his own art. His subject matter is extremely varied. He paints his day's activities, including visits to a local rodeo, scenes of the mountains around him or historical Western personalities, like Wyatt Earp. He also does nostalgic paintings of memories of his youth, using bright colors to depict a huge cast of characters. Joplin was the home of the Miners when he grew up, where Mickey Mantle started, and baseball is another favorite theme. He also enjoys political satire and has found a very good subject in George W. He builds pieces with found objects and carves, having designed toys in his previous life, and executes whirligigs, animals and birds. He is also known for his pictorial quilts, designed by him; crafted by stitchers around the country. One is in the Smithsonian. Every one of his pieces tells a story and Ed has a lot to talk about.
His work has been featured in a number of exhibitions and is included in private, corporate and public collections around the country.
